  • Animal Services officers may not relocate a wild animal by State law, and they would have to release the animal on your property.

Should I attempt to trap wild animals around my house if I see them in my yard?

  • Generally, no.
  • Many wild animals are only passing through your property.
  • They will not stay there unless you provide food or access to a space that provides shelter to them.

What places around my house provide shelter to raccoons and skunks, and how can I deter animals from using them?

  • Chimneys, attics, porches, decks and raised foundations are all attractive den sites for raccoons and skunks.
  • Seal entry holes in and under buildings, eaves, air ducts and decks.
  • Use screening on vents, decks and under gates and fences.
  • Use predator urine - available from home and garden centers and online.
  • Use Cayenne pepper and water mixtures

What should I do about wild animals under the house or in the attic?

  • Do not feed wild animals or leave animal food accessible to wild animals.  This includes bird food.
  • Ensure your foundation and roof vents are adequately sealed to prevent animals accessing these areas.
  • Do not intentionally trap an animal within the confines of your home.  The animal may create more damage as it tries to escape, or if it dies within the confines of your home, you now have to get it removed.
  • There are licensed, professional animal removal services you can locate in the phone book or through an internet search to assist you.
  • If you choose to use chemicals to prevent or resolve your problem, do so in the manner in which they are designed.  It is a violation to use chemicals in a manner not consistent with their purpose.

Why should I be concerned about leaving my animal's food dish outside our home, and why shouldn't I feed the wild animals in Redondo Beach?

  • Free roaming wild animals do not receive veterinary care
  • All wildlife species can carry diseases and parasites.
  • Wild animals are known carriers of rabies, canine distemper, encephalitis, histoplasmosis, trypanosomiasis, coccidiosis, toxoplasmosis, tularemia, tuberculosis, listeriosis, leptospirosis, roundworms, and mange.
  • Wild animals are also infested with fleas, ticks, lice and mites which are known transmitters of disease.
  • Children and pets are particularly at risk.
