When will officers start enforcing the Oversized Vehicle Parking laws?
Officers will begin enforcing the restriction of oversized vehicle parking effective July 1, 2011.
When did the ordinance become law? I never heard anything about this.
The oversized vehicle ordinances became law in November 2010. The City Council conducted numerous public discussions during its normal meetings, special public outreach meetings at various city facilities, and discussions at their monthly meetings to allow public input from 2008 to 2010. These meetings were publicized on the City’s website, in local newspapers and at Commission and City Council meetings. Public comment was also taken by email and telephone.

Oversized Vehicle Registration Do I have to register my oversized vehicle with the City of Redondo Beach and why?
Yes.
You must complete an Oversized Vehicle Parking Application and register your vehicle with a one-time fee with the Redondo Beach Parking Enforcement Unit.
The registration allows enforcement officers to determine that your vehicle is owned, leased or rented by a Redondo Beach resident to prevent it from being cited or towed.
The vehicle will need a free Oversized Vehicle Permit between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings if the vehicle is parked on the street or in a City parking lot between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m..
The vehicle will not need a permit on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and on national holidays.

If your vehicle is registered with the California Department of Motor Vehicles to your Redondo Beach residence address, the cost to register your oversized vehicle is $20.00.
If your vehicle is registered with the California Department Motor of Vehicles to an address outside the City of Redondo Beach, and you are a Redondo Beach resident or land owner, the cost to register your vehicle is $30.00.
Currently, payments for registration should be paid in person at City Hall Door E or sent by mail to Oversized Vehicle Registration, C/O Parking Enforcement Unit, 415 Diamond Street, P.O. Box 270, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
The Parking Enforcement Unit is in the process of establishing an online service to allow you to register, pay and obtain permits online. The website will provide instructions when this system is operative.
What information will I need to provide to register my oversized vehicle in the City of Redondo Beach?

Do I need to register the RV or trailer that I am temporarily renting?
Yes, if you are going to park it on city streets during the restricted hours of 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m..
The recreational vehicle or trailer that you rent will need a parking permit between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. if you park it on the street Tuesday through Friday in the City of Redondo Beach.
If you are only parking it on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., you will not require a permit. However, it is possible that if you do not register the vehicle with the Parking Enforcement Unit prior to parking it, you will receive a citation for illegal parking. This would require you to pay the citation or contest the citation by filing a request for an Administrative Investigation. You would have to support your request with the documentation of your temporary lease and rental and proof of residency.

How do I obtain an Oversized Vehicle Parking Permit now and in the future if I live in Redondo Beach?
Now: Beginning June 1, 2011 you may obtain a permit by calling the Parking Enforcement Unit Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to request the permit. Have the information ready for our staff to create the permit. You will need to provide:

The license plate number, make, model and types of the vehicle or vehicle combinations
What is the cost of an Oversized Vehicle Daily Parking Permit to park my vehicle on the street in Redondo Beach?
The Oversized Vehicle Daily Parking Permits for residents' oversized vehicles are free.
What is the valid period of each daily permit?
The permit is valid for the one day, the 24 hour period from midnight to 11:59 p.m.
Oversized Vehicle Definition
What is the definition of an oversized vehicle in Redondo Beach?
An oversized vehicle is any motorized vehicle or combination of motorized vehicles and non-motorized vehicles or trailers that:’
Meets or exceeds twenty-two (22) feet in length at any time
Meets or exceeds the combination of both more than eight (8) feet in height and is also meets or exceeds seven (7) feet in width.

This would include vehicles that exceed the measurements and would include:
Recreational Vehicles
Campers
House cars
Combination vehicles such as trucks or cars with attached travel or utility trailers, vehicles with attached boat trailers, etc.

Are pickup trucks or sport utility vehicles parked without trailers attached included?
Not all of them. Pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles that are less than twenty-five (25) feet in length and less than eight (8) feet in height are not included as an oversized vehicle.
Are commercial vehicles considered oversized vehicles by this law?
No. Commercial vehicles as defined in Municipal Code 3-7.901 are not included in this law. The laws restricting commercial vehicles in residential and business districts are defined in other parts of the Municipal Code.

When are oversized vehicles restricted from parking in Redondo Beach without a permit?
Oversized vehicles may not stop, stand, park or be left standing on Redondo Beach City streets and City parking lots between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless otherwise authorized by the Municipal Code.
Residents are allowed to park between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Can anyone (resident and non-resident) park an oversized vehicle in Redondo Beach for twenty hours a day from 6:00 a.m. in the morning until 2:00 a.m. the next day?
Yes. Oversized vehicle parking for residents and non-residents is only regulated between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Non-residents, unless they are the permitted guests of residents, may not park in Redondo Beach during these hours.
Residents may park during these hours without a permit on weekends and holidays (Saturday-Monday) and with a permit on Tuesdays-Fridays.
Where can residents and landowners park an oversized vehicle on Redondo Beach City streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.?
Residents must park their oversized vehicles under the following conditions:
You must park at the street curb immediately adjacent to your property.
If the curb configuration or parking restrictions adjacent to your property does not allow you to park immediately adjacent to your property, you must park within 400 feet of your property.
(Example: you do not have twenty-seven feet of curb space to allow you to park your 27' vehicle next to your house, or there is no parking on your side of the street.
You must have a permit Tuesday through Friday
Oversized Vehicle Permit Examples
How many permits will I need if I want to park my oversized RV in front of my house from Tuesday night at 10:00 until I leave on Thursday morning at 5:00 a.m.?
You will need two 24-hour free permits for the periods from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
How many permits will I need if I want to park my RV in front of my house from Monday night until the following Saturday?
You may not park your vehicle for this period of time in front of your residence during the restricted hours. You many only park for three consecutive 24 hour periods when permits are required. Your vehicle must be absent from the location for 24 hours before you may return and lawfully park at the location again with a permit.
If I park my RV on Friday night and buy and use permits for three consecutive nights, when must I move my RV again?
You would not have to move your RV until 2:00 a.m. on the following Friday morning. You do not require a permit to park on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings. You may use three consecutive permits for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
If I am a resident, how many free parking permits can I receive each year for Tuesday through Friday street parking?
You may receive six (6) overnight parking permits per month and
Up to sixty overnight parking permits per year.
Each permit is valid for a twenty-four hour period and can be used for three consecutive days at a time.
Oversized Vehicle Permit Placement
Where do I place my parking permit on my oversized vehicle?
The permit must be prominently displayed in the lower driver’s side windshield. It must be visible from the exterior and shall not cover the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Trailers must display the permit on the side of the trailer so that it is visible from the street, usually on the left side of the vehicle.
Definition of Resident
What is the definition of a “resident” as it applies to the ownership of an oversized vehicle and the ability to park it in Redondo Beach?
A resident is a person who customarily resides and maintains a place of abode or who owns land within the City of Redondo Beach.
Resident does not mean a person who maintains an address at a post office box, mailbox drop, or who rents a room in Redondo Beach without this being their primary place of abode.
Visitor Permits
I have visitors coming to my home to visit and stay at my house while they park their oversized vehicle in the street. Can they receive a permit?
Yes. As a resident you are entitled to receive three seven-day out of town visitor permits each year.
The oversized vehicle may not be used for camping, lodging, residing or accommodation purposes during their stay.
Camping and sleeping in vehicles in public places is not allowed in Redondo Beach.
Note that your out of town visitor must park adjacent to your residence or within 400 feet of your residence if parking is not available due to curb configuration or codified parking restrictions.
How much will a citation cost if I park without a permit or at a location that is not in compliance with the law for example, parking in front of another residence instead of your own or other than within 400 feet of your residence due to parking restrictions?
