| Commercial Trash Collection The City of Redondo Beach contracts commercial trash hauling services with Consolidated Disposal Service. All businesses interested in receiving more information about recycling and trash services in the City should contact Grace Huizar at (310) 318-0686 Ext 4153. Commercial Recycling Services Recycling services are available to Redondo Beach businesses as part of the City’s overall trash collection services. Every business in the City may take part in a commercial recycling program targeting the collection of mixed paper products, which make up the largest portion of business waste, as well as plastic, glass, and metal containers. Why Commercial Recycling? Our goal is to achieve a 50% reduction in waste throughout the City. Businesses produce nearly half of the trash thrown out in Redondo Beach. Economic Benefits of Business Recycling By reducing what goes into your trash bin, you can save money on waste disposal bills. Businesses pay for trash collection by the size of the bin they use and how frequently it is collected. Reduce the amount of recyclables in the trash, and you can reduce the number of refuse pick-ups required and thereby lower your refuse bill. After you establish a recycling program; merely evaluate just how much trash disposal service you really need. For example, if you can reduce your trash collection from twice a week to once a week or reduce the size of the trash bin that you have, your annual trash budget can be significantly reduced. By periodically observing what materials are placed in your trash bin, and how full it is on collection day, you can evaluate your actual trash collection needs. How To Make Your Business Recycling Program A Success Successful business recycling programs begin when each employee participates in the program. By establishing a recycling policy throughout your business, and informing everyone about how the recycling program works, your program can and will be effective. Start with these few guidelines: First ...... Order the outdoor recycling receptacle provided by Consolidated Disposal Service. Next...... Place clearly labeled indoor recycling bins in central locations for your employees to use. Locate bins near the copy machine, computer printer, fax machine, kitchen or break area and the back door or the loading dock of your business so that recycling is convenient. Then...... Empty the indoor recycling bins into the outdoor receptacle when they are full. Finally..... Review the "Do’s & Don’t Recycle" list of recyclable materials. Remember to keep all other materials out of your recycling container. Remember... Items on the "Don’t Recycle" list will contaminate a load of otherwise valuable recyclables. How To Keep the Program Going Once the program is underway, remember to reinforce the recycling program instructions with all employees. Train new employees on how to separate recyclables from the trash, as part of their new employee orientation program. Finally, make sure you put the right recyclables in your receptacle, and replace torn and weathered posters, making sure they are always easy to read and in plain view.
