Medical Reserve Corps

The Beach Cities MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS

One of the goals of the Redondo Beach Citizen Corps Council has been the formation of a Medical Reserve Corps--a group of physicians, nurses, health and mental health professionals who are willing and trained to help out during emergencies and times of community need.

The Beach Cities Health District, a public entity that promotes health and wellness in the three beach cities, has taken on the challenge of recruiting and training retired health professionals as a resource for mobilization during emergencies.

On October 30, 2003, the Beach Cities Health District was awarded a $50,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help in the development of a Medical Reserve Corps serving Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.

USA Freedom Corps Director John Bridgeleand said "With the help of these grants, communities will be able to strengthen new and existing Medical Reserve Corps units nationwide and coordinate the skills of health care professionals in order to better mobilize volunteers in times of need."

Stacy Wyatt  was hired to coordinate the Beach Cities Health District?s Medical Reserve Corps grant.  Although the program is still in its formative stages, a steering committee has been formed and community input is being solicited.  If you have any suggestions for the committee, or if you are a physician, nurse, health or mental health professional and would like to volunteer as a member of the Medical Reserve Corps, please contact Stacy Wyatt:
